Introduction to Your LGBTQ Patients is a two-course series that serves as an introduction to LGBTQ healthcare, including strategies for delivering accessible and affirming healthcare. It covers common issues that patients may have and provides basic cultural competency skills for working with LGBTQ patients and colleagues. Introduction to Your LGBTQ Patients: Executive Briefing is a 3-course series that improves clinicians’ knowledge of LGBTQ patients’ healthcare concerns, and the differences between sexual orientation and sexual behavior as well as gender identity and gender expression. Basic terminology and cultural competency skills are highlighted to increase clinicians’ competency in their care of LGBTQ patients. In addition, this activity provides strategies for reducing discrimination to lessen the impact of minority stress on the health of LGBTQ patients and colleagues.

LGBTQ Healthcare– Course 2 Description:
This course addresses diversity as a health issue, discrimination, specifically in healthcare, social issues, risk behaviors, and strategies for delivering accessible and affirming healthcare. This course takes 40 minutes to complete and is intended for all staff and volunteers. Transgender Healthcare and Cultural Competency– Course 3 Description:
This course reviews statistics, gender identity, and gender expression. It covers basic terminology, common issues transgender clients may have and strategies for delivering accessible and affirming healthcare to transgender clients. It also contains a section on transgender youth. This course takes 50 minutes to complete and is intended for all staff and volunteers. This course was originally released on August 3, 2015, last updated on August 3, 2018, and is eligible for CME/CNE credit through August 3, 2021.
This series focuses on concerns and barriers to accessing healthcare, mental and behavioral health issues that may be more common in or specific to the transgender and nonbinary community, therapeutic options available to trans female, trans male, and nonbinary patients and preventative health measures for these populations.
Transgender and Nonbinary Health and Health Concerns– Course 1 Description:
This course covers barriers and concerns transgender and nonbinary adults may have or encounter when accessing healthcare. It describes mental, behavioral, and physical health issues that may be more common in, or specific to, transgender and nonbinary adults. This course also identifies organizations that provide Standards of Care, guidelines and consultative support for working with transgender and nonbinary patients.
Medical Care for Trans Female and Nonbinary Patients– Course 2 Description:
This course covers therapeutic options, including hormone, surgical, and non-surgical for trans female and nonbinary patients, with associated dosing, long and short-term effects. It also describes mental, behavioral, and physical health issues that may be more common in, or specific to, trans female and nonbinary adults.
Medical Care for Trans Male and Nonbinary Patients– Course 3 Description:
This course covers mental, behavioral, and physical health issues that may be more common in or specific to trans male and nonbinary adults. It reviews therapeutic options, including hormone, surgical and non-surgical, for trans male and nonbinary adults, with associated long and short term effects.

The LGBTQ Healthcare for Clinicians series consists of three courses focused on providing care for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQ) community. The first course, An Introduction to LGBTQ Healthcare for Clinicians, explores how common assumptions made in medical settings about LGBTQ individuals impact the health and care of this population. It also provides an overview of healthcare needs specific to the LGBTQ population, and strategies for delivering accessible care.
The second and third courses, Lesbian and Bisexual Women's Health and Health Concerns and Gay and Bisexual Men's Health and Health Concerns address unique health concerns among LGB patients, and strategies for providing LGB-inclusive healthcare environments, including effective, inclusive communication techniques.
